The Two D's

INTERVIEW - DONNIE AND DANNY

From Joey Mac's Site

(Look at Joey's son! SO CUTE!!! AHHHHH!)

Joey wrote:

I'm gonna take a wild guess that if you are coming to this site, you've probably heard the news about "The Block." This here is official. Nice to finally let the cats out the bag. Last Friday was a trip to say the least - In one rain soaked moment, we were instantly reminded of the very special connection we have with our fans. As I think you can tell, we are having a good time; otherwise we wouldn't be doing it.

Behind the scenes, there's alot going on- music mostly, finishing up the album, photo shoots, putting the live band together, choreography of course, picking a first single and talking about a video. All important things that sometimes get five different opinions. But usually after a couple of black eyes and loose teeth, we work it out.

Needless to say, I'm excited to see it all roll out. And if we're excited, I trust you guys are too. Its been cool to bump into people wherever I go, who share their stories and tell me they can't wait for the tour and to hear the new music. Timing is everything and it sure feels right. I think we- meaning you and us- are at a place where we can really enjoy this.

Let's soak it up. - jm

Donnie Wahlberg Returns to Television - May'08 (HollyScoop.com)

This was posted on HollyScoop.com, first time I heard about it...some further investigation is needed...

"Donnie Wahlberg is making a comeback not only with New Kids, but on TV as well. He'll be developing and starring in a new drama series for TNT called Morse Code.

He's teamed up with Jon Avnet for the show, which will be a crime drama about a young war hero-turned drug enforcement administration officer. Sounds good!

For Donnie's sake, we hope this NKOTB reunion is short-lived so he can focus on his real projects like TV shows."

Jonathan Knight's People Magazine Article from November 20, 2000

People Magazine - November 20, 2000
Renewed Kid
By Michelle Tauber Phyllis Karas in Essex

After battling panic attacks, ex-New Kid on the Block Jonathan Knight traded music for a real estate career.

Teen crushes die-hard. Although it has been a decade since Jonathan Knight's face first graced pillowcases, T-shirts and bedroom walls as one-fifth of the boy band New Kids on the Block, Knight, 31, is still a heartthrob in demand. "Recently there were two 29-year-old girls from Spain in my driveway screaming my name", he recalls incredulously. "Just today there were some girls in a car with New Jersey license plates."

In fact, fan antics are one reason Knight and his fellow New Kids (brother Jordan, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and Joey McIntyre) called it quits. "Sometimes, back then, it got real scary," he says. "Especially at airports - the most I got were some scratches, but those crowds could get out of control. " Finally, after their Face the Music tour wrapped in 1994, Knight wanted out. "I felt that we had done it long enough," he says. I was the first to jump ship. The others were angry at first, but they understood." With brother Jordan, Knight ultimately found refuge in rural Essex, Mass., on a 20-acre estate that includes a 14-bedroom house and a stable. (Jordan has since relocated to Milton, Mass.) Yet it wasn't until 1996, when he launched his career as a real estate developer, that he found professional independence. Working to buy, sell and renovate houses and condos, "I can finally stand on my own two feet," he says. Although Knight typically keeps mum about his ex-teen-idol status, "sometimes when we're at a closing the lawyer or client will realize who he is, " says Jim Cullity, 34, one of Knight's two partners in a Boston real estate firm. "They'll ask for his autograph or posters, and Jon will always do it."
In recent months Knight has also been collaborating with architects to design houses. It is an interest he developed growing up in Dorchester, Mass., the son of Marlene, 60, a former social worker, and Allan, 63, a Episcopal priest (the two divorced in 1984). "I was always doodling house sketches," says Knight, one of six siblings.

Eventually, of course, Knight's architectural fantasies gave way to pursuit of his musical abilities, which he honed by singing in his father's church choir. In 1984, he and Jordan joined a vocal group being recruited by producer Maurice Starr, and Knight soon found himself touring the world - and inciting preteen hysteria wherever he went. He describes his years on the block as "more fun than unfun", but admits he also battled frequent panic attacks while touring. "We performed in front of 30,000 people every night", he recalls, "and I had lots of anxiety attacks. Those attacks had a big impact on my determining to leave the entertainment industry."

In the years since, Knight has remained resolutely out of limelight, even as Jordan, now 30, has continued to perform as a solo artist. (Wahlberg, now 31, is an actor who appeared in The Sixth Sense; Wood, 31, is in music production; and McIntyre, 27, is also pursuing a solo singing career.) Knight insists that he doesn't miss his former fame. During the New Kids heyday, "my life was so materialistic," he says. "Other people handled everything for me." Notes father Allan: "He's told me that when used to sing, he wasn't that happy. His life was hectic and crazy."

Donna Wright, a talent manager for the Backstreet Boys who has known Knight since 1985, says that these days "he's a lot calmer and more focused. He's still the same person, but he's much happier." The now-grown Kid, who is single and looking to relocate to Boston ("I want to be around people, not crickets"), says he wouldn't rule out a reunion with his former singing partners "for old times' sake." And he maintains a keen sense of humor about his boy-band past. "Sometimes, when the two of us are working in a house, I'll put on one of his New Kids CDs and blast it," confesses Cullity. "He just laughs along with the words." Of course, Cullity notes, "he'll do something later to get back at me."

Joe & Canadians/Canada!!

ok, desi here..i have NEVER posted a blog in my life, so let's see if i can do this, as i HAD to post this.  i was reading joey's blog on NKOTB.com (as the forum is not working for some reason?!?) and this post made me proud and also a little embarrassed at the same time.  some of the fans are a tad out there, but i loved the way he described that canadians are more laid back and he may want to move here (hahaha)......i am a proud canadian and reading this makes me smile internally!!

aaargh it won't work for some reason...but check out nkotb.com/blog/2008/06/a-toronto-thing-joey-mac/

(i apologize, i just don't know how to get it to work...i may need a small tutorial on how this works!)

Why I am so proud of Jonathan....

I have suffered with this same disorder since I was 14 years old. For years I had no idea what was wrong with me and I wasnt able to get a diagnosis until I was 25! Needless to say when I happened to see the Oprah show on this topic I was shocked and actually, moved to tears to find that someone in the group that was my obsession for years had a member who suffered silently through the same thing! It was watching this show that I found a deep respect and connection with Jonathan Knight and I was so proud of him for sharing his story. It still moves me to tears just watching it - but I am just so proud of him for increasing the awareness and tolerance of this disorder in the general public. I do have VIP tickets for several Canadian shows this fall and if I meet Jonathan - I will have to remember to thank him for it...if i can bring myself to even speak. Thank you Jonathan from the bottom of my heart. I wish you all of the strength you need to complete this 2008 tour and I'm so very proud of you for doing it.
*hugs* Heidi

NKOTB on MMVA's Interlude

Pay close attention to the end - Joey Joe just has to have the last word!
Too cute!
OK, Heidi here, now I have to say that I saw The Happening on Friday when it came out and - wow - it was just...very very good. I mean I did not care for some of the goryish scenes but the subject matter hit very close to home since I am a supporter of taking responsibility for what we have done to the planet. I think the acting was amazing and I actually was brought to tears over Jon Leguizamo's situation.
So as much as I disagree about what this writer thinks of the movie - I just laughed at the parts that quoted what Mark said about his 'past life'. It made me want to dig out the old videos....those were the days.

Marky Mark Ponders Funky Bunch Reunion; Is The Happening Really That Assy?
Leah Collins (Dose Magazine)
Published: Friday, June 13, 2008

Considering the laughable early buzz surrounding Mark Wahlberg's new flick, The Happening, it might not be long before the actor begins sizing up other career options. Perhaps he'll turn to his older New Kid on the Block brother Donnie, marvel at the fact legions of cougars are still willing to toss their panties to the beat of "Hangin' Tough" and think, "Hey, maybe I should drag the Funky Bunch out of the underwear models' retirement home, wax the old superfluous nipple and take the push-up dance moves on the road for the ladies." Because really, could hammer dancing in overalls be any worse than starring in a movie where you have to do a scene (spoiler!) apologizing to a rubber plant?

In an interview with MTV, Wahlberg gave his seal of approval to brother Donnie and the rest of the New Kids' rebooted careers. "Whatever floats your boat. If the Rolling Stones can be wheeled out on wheelchairs then why can't the New Kids go out there?"

Indeed. So, perhaps the same logic should extend to the Funky Bunch? Sure, but will Marky Mark -- ahem, Academy-Award-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg -- be joining them? "Not a fucking chance," he said.

We're not exactly surprised by that response. However, as Wahlberg went on, he did drop this cheese bomb: his early '90s "hip hop" group has actually already been in talks for a reunion. Come on! All the underwear models in the world could not convince anyone to sit through a 45-minute set of nothing but "Good Vibrations" remixes.

"They asked me if I would partake and I had to decline," said Wahlberg. And for the 12 people in the world who are dismayed by that news, just know that Wahlberg is doing it for all the right reasons. He's just thinking of the children. His children, specifically -- not that a little family shame stopped brother Donnie from possibly scarring his own brood of junior Wahlbergs with his grown-up boy-band-ery.

"Part of me would love to run around and act like a freaking asshole again but I can't do that. I've got two kids," said Wahlberg. "I saw something on VH1 or something about me in the 90s and I thought, 'Oh my God, how am I going to explain this to my kids?' I have a few years to think about how to finesse it but I do think about it on a daily basis."

Cirque du steamy nights....eh? ;)

Want to know what the New Kids on the Block tour will be like?

"Cirque du steamy nights with the New Kids!" jokes Jordan Knight to Usmagazine.com, comparing the boy band to the flexible Las Vegas performance troupe.

On Thursday — the day before the early ‘90s mega group reunites this morning on the Today Show — they hung out with Us and spilled tour secrets. They also sang a little, which you can watch on the video

"We're doing all the old dances, and we're doing new dances," Danny Wood says.

Adds Donnie Wahlberg: "We're dancing fools!

"We're not old guys — we're not like in boy band boot camp, if you know what I mean," Wahlberg jokes.

LOL with Me

Okay I fess up, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to laugh and I love satire and sarcasm especially .... well I found this hilarious blog post about NKOTB and I have to share it because its too funny!

Summertime Lyrics

New Kids on the Block - Summertime Lyrics

Spoken:
Jones Beach 1988. Come on!

Do you remember,
Or should I rewind,
To that summer when you caught my eye,
I played it cool,
The weather was hot,
You had the beauty and the beach on lock.

With your flip flops, half shirt, short shorts, mini skirt,
Walkin’ on the beach, so pretty,
You wasn’t lookin’ for a man,
When you saw me in the sand,
But you fell for the boy from the city.

I was like, “hey, girl, can I get your number”
I remember what you told me too,
“Don’t call after ten”
But you know that I did,
‘Cause I couldn’t stop thinkin’ ’bout you.

I think about you in the summertime,
(Oh oh)
And all the good times we had, baby,
Been a few years and I can’t deny,
(Oh oh)
The thought of you still makes me crazy,
I think about you in the summertime,
(Oh oh)
I’m sittin’ here in the sun with you on my mind.
You’re my, my summertime.

Do you remember,
I’ll never forget,
Touchin’ your body all soakin’ wet,
The water was cool,
The feelin’ was hot,
Kissin’ on you while the ocean rocked.

In your strapless sundress,
Kickin’ back, no stress,
As long as we was together,
‘Cause we were feelin’ young love,
And we couldn’t get enough.
Baby, I could reminisce forever.

And now I’m like,
Hey, girl, don’t you know I miss it,
And I wonder if you miss it too,
Never thought it would end ’til it did,
Now, I’m here and I can’t stop thinkin’ ’bout you.

I think about you in the summertime,
(Oh oh)
And all the good times we had, baby,
Been a few years and I can’t deny,
(Oh oh)
The thought of you still makes me crazy,
I think about you in the summertime,
I’m sittin’ here in the sun with you on my mind.
You’re my, my summertime.

Spoken: Break it down.

Summer ended,
Winter started,
It got colder,
When we parted ways,
(Spoken: I like this part.)
As the seasons changed.
(Spoken: Bring it forward, bring it back)
Winter melted,
Spring I felt it,
Summertime will never be the same,
(Without you. My summertime.)
My summertime.

I think about you in the summertime,
I think about you
(Oh oh)
And all the good times we had, baby,
We had baby
It’s been a few years and I can’t deny,
I can’t deny
(Oh oh)
The thought of you still makes me crazy,
Makes me crazy
I think about you in the summertime,
I’m sittin’ here in the sun with you on my mind.
On my mind,
My summertime.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, oh yeah.
